From MGoFish, not a perfect list (e.g. several highly doubtful players are included), but does show UM is really working hard to shore up the depth chart. Their latest decommits (Viramontes and Reese) are at positions where UM looks strong in terms of alternatives. I actually wonder if Reese's decommit isn't a really positive sign about Devin Bush...

Thanks for posting this. We need some major help at LB for sure. Also seems like our DE/Tackle depth is relatively weak so hopefully we get our #1 recruit because he will get to play immediately. Let's see how things pan out. On paper, I would assume given that most of the folks are coming back we should at least be 1 win better as player development will help us out. Ruddock basically assured we would not lose to Indiana and helped a lot against Minnesota as well so O'Korn's game management (we all know he can make the throws, etc) will be the X-factor next year.

Also, can you imagine a whole year of Peppers on offense versus just starting from the MSU game like last year?

The one dire need Michigan had for this year's class was the offense of line. With graduations after next year they would've been in a lot of trouble. But they have pool then 5 to 6 quality recruits and have another one in Terrance Davis on the line.

I am going to assume from here in that as long as Harbaugh has quality to work with the quarterback position is going to be at least a positive if not an absolute strength. The linebacker situation looks most troublesome, the next couple weeks of recruiting will be key to shore that up.

Our coach sure is working his ass off to see that this team gets in position to win. I've never seen a UM staff work as hard as they are at recruiting. They are ubiquitous.

Fair points. This is my prediction (call me pessimistic), but when I see offers go out to 3-stars, it generally is a strong signal that the higher caliber players they were/are hoping for have given them a strong indication that they are likely not coming to Michigan. In the past week we have offered a 3-star WR and we are now potentially going to convince this Stewart (3-star) kid in NJ to come to Michigan. That tells me that Conley is pretty much out of the running at this point and that likely means Hill as well. Michigan does need quality WRs in this years class for sure because Chesson and Darboh are both gone in 2017 and we don't have any true playmakers there.

I think Lake Tahoe Spartan posted something to this tune - Hoke recruited well but recruited unbalanced classes. So you always had 1-2 positions that were strong and mature and others that were young and not as talented. You have to have consistency and talent in all aspects to get to 11+ wins and Michigan has not been able to do that because of the way Hoke recruited. Hoke doubled down on RBs and OLs but failed at recruiting good QBs and WRs for instance on offense. So as a result we have decent depth at both OL and RB (even thought they all suck) but very little at WR for instance. That is the one thing I think JH will need a couple years to work out is to figure out how to get enough talent and balance in each class where you can consistently field a team that is strong all sides of the ball.

To your last point JH seems to believe in depth at all costs. I think one of the results of that will be that older players just hanging around will be leaving more rapidly. No automatic fifth years means freed scholarships. And he's already done something I've just about never seen UM do in 40 years, attract in meaningful, difference-making transfers. I expect that means we will have consistently 20+ player classes as well.

Agree - I like his mentality of...as a student athlete you should graduate in 4 years and your 5th year is an earned privilege versus a given. It set the right tone with a focus on education and commitment. Hopefully we can get some good non QB transfers coming next year especially at LB...I personally feel like that is our achilles heel right now.

I am probably counting several duplicates, but I tried to take them out along with the walk-ons. There appears to still be 98 names and an 85 scholarship limit. The other solution is a number of transfers, medical scholarships, and several fifth year players not getting the fifth year. I know there are still several more recruits out there that are not on the list. It will be a interesting visit to look at the list after signing day and the end of the school year. There must be movement for this to work.

For some reason Clappy and his elite staff couldn't recruit skill positions well at all. And he liked to recruit OL and then let them stagnate under Funk's worthless coaching, which really didn't help things.
But it does take 5-6 years to build a program, you know...

The list is definitely fluid and I think there are a number of non-scholarship players included as well as players that have yet to commit and some 5th years that won't be back. Captain Jim will get the numbers right.
