I’m watching the horrible Orlando Magic get decimated by Dallas. Of course I was watching the Wagner brothers, who are not having even close to their record-setting 45-point brother scoring performance last night. Mo isn’t getting many minutes and Franz isn’t getting or taking many shots. Other than free throws I think he’s been shut out until the middle of the 3Q.
But the big who caught my eye in the first half was Stanford’s Robin Lopez, a seven-footer who was the 15th overall pick in the 2008 draft. Obviously he has some staying power.
I couldn’t help but be impressed by Lopez’ athleticism, his ability to move, even dribble occasionally. And his deadly hook shot from all kinds of different angles. Of course I tried to compare him to Hunter Dickinson. But there isn’t a comparison. Dickinson has a quick hook, but overall he’s nowhere near as athletic or mobile as Lopez, who is fifteen years his senior.
i’m only an occasional viewer of NBA basketball and certainly no basketball expert. As an example, I opined that Franz Wagner wasn’t strong enough for the bigs he’d face in the NBA. Like I said, I’m no expert. But even big brother Mo, a clear bench player, is faster and more athletic than Dickinson, at the same height.
If any of you watched the Magic versus Dallas tonight, what are your comments?
