I'm not a coach or profess to be some kind of an expert but here's what I would try to do aginst Wisky
I would make them beat me with the run. I would drop everyone into coverage and stop the constant blitzing that's totally ineffective. Now, they are probably capable of running a very effective ground game but you have to make choices. I would try to find a way to shut down the big chunk pass plays and take my chances. Make them go the entire length of the field on the ground. The LB's being eliminated from every play because they are being eaten alive by the O-line is completely futile and needs to be put away until we actually have a pass rush. If we can't get home against IU and MSU, they won't get home against Wisky. Just try to play solid D with all 11 players and stop taking chances that keep drives alive. We aren't good enough.
On offense, I would get Eric ALL the ball on the first series even if I had to hand it to him on a sweep. He needs to make a play and start getting some confidence. He's our best TE blocker. I would ditch the BS RB rotation and go with the hot hand. 4 back rotation is failing. Admit it and move on. No way I call one run play on second down and 7 yards or more. Go back to more of the two back sets we started the season with. Overall, I am stretching the field and I'm going to try to establish the pass first. Our pass pro has not been great but it's been better than our run game. I would air it out early. Go long and hope for completion or a penalty. If we hit one or two it will open up some run possibilities and the short game. If I have to max protect to get it done, so be it. Right now the two kids I'm looking for if I'm Joe are Bell and Wilson. Bell has the heart and Wilson has the hands.
If you make a stupid penalty, offsides, late hit out of bounds, You can turn in your helmet. I don't care if your Joe Milton. This BS has to stop.
I would take the Wildcat page of the playbook and have some sort of burning ceremony where it's eliminated forever.
My game plan could be a total disaster but it's how I would try to get it done. At this point, Why not?
What would you do?
