#1. I believe our Defense will Match OSU's by the game. I dont think anyone has a better defense than us in the Conference except OSU. That is the strength this year. DLine finally not a concern. Depth at top talent there with experience. That makes all the difference for the DB's which has a question mark. Add to that a LB corp that might be our best for years. Viper being the only one new but lots of backup talent pushing for performance. A great place to be.
As for the Dbackfield, Ill just say this. We will be starting 3 returning starters. Safeties is finally not a red flag like it has been for years. Both Safeties started last year. One Corner Starter from last year is returning. As for backups, there arent all a bunch of freshmen. Backups have been turning heads.
2. TE's are set. Have it all, talent, size, experience and mentally right. We have those that like to block. We have those that run. We have size and athleticism. Im a happy camper here. WR's, even with losing 3 experienced starting WR's from last year, I believe this group will fit Gattis game style better than last years class. Thats huge! Yet, being able to add the talent and speed of our WR room, could be a perfect fit and wow!!! (Keep in mind this point for later, we have speed to go deep now!)
RB's,, finally we have the pieces needed. Size, speed, hands, health, depth, experience etc. This seems to be the longest wait of all positions(except Safety) to finally arrive at. WE ARE THERE!
OLine, first the coaching which was the biggest obstacle for years. Finally got our Whisperer on the staff. Although he likely yells, lol We finally have athleticism there. Also size, also depth. Also experience. Too long we had to put kids on the field at OL that we too early and not prepared. Not the case now. Starters and Depth have been in the system. It has also been 'THE SAME SYSTEM" instead of a new coach with a new process to learn. They are now just waiting for the light to go green and say go!!
Lastly, the QB! A few things, first I realize we have a new starter. No getting away without growing pains. However,, I believe 2 things will tip the scales in favor for this new starter. 1. The kid can get down the field 80yards with his arm. That alone adds 1/3 more to the field that opposing Defenses didnt have to worry about last year with Shea. Thats takes pressure off the short crossing routes. Plus the serious running game will also help the deep game.
#2.,, Milton is 6'5. That alone is an unmeasurable value of seeing our junebug WR's buzzing across the field. How long have we watched our QB not be able to see "WIDE OPEN RECIEVERS"? I say, those days may not be an issue this fall.
All in all, I believe we have team balance. No longer do we have to have one side or the other carry us til the other side catches up. Both sides will produce. They likely will feed off each other. FINALLY.
So therefore,,,,,,,,,, I dont think we have a loss going into the OSU game. There is nobody we cant beat. We just might have enough balance on both sides to finally make the OSU game, a game!
