I don’t post much, so please take this for what it’s worth.
I turned off the game with about 3 minutes to go. I then sat on my couch for about 15 minutes, moping, resigned to the fact that this is the worst day of my year. That got me thinking: why? Why do I care so much about this game that I let it actually affect my life? As I reflected, I realized that what transpired today was just that—a game.
Mind you, it’s a game I wanted to play my entire life. My senior year of high school, Lloyd Carr gave me that chance, allowing me to walk on. Although we didn’t have the success we wanted (Carr’s last year, Rich Rod’s three years) and I didn’t see the field much, I got an incredible education, made lifelong friends, and ended up getting into Michigan law school (probably because of football). Most importantly, I met the love of my life welcome week freshman year, and am fortunate enough to have married her.
My 7 years at the University of Michigan made me fall in love with that place, and with this team. Do I want us to succeed? Yes. Did today suck? Of course. We all want to win, but after reading some of these posts, I think people—myself included—seriously need to put things in perspective. The sky isn’t falling, and the sun will rise tomorrow; this truly is only a game. And win or lose that game, I wouldn’t trade my time at the University of Michigan for anything—not a national championship at bama, or a four-year sweep of an archrival at OSU. At the end of the day, I have two degrees from the preeminent public institution in the country, and nothing will take that away, not even a loss to a group of people who attended the biggest school in Ohio. Go Blue.
