I love to tell this story so i thought i would share it here.
I was born on Oct 27 and 27 became my lucky number/jersey number for a variety of reasons. Always tried to wear that number in sports.
My daughter was born May 27. My son was scheduled to be born Oct 27th by Caesarian
but came five days early.
My 27th birthday fell on a Game Day Saturday. Oct 27th 1979. Homecoming .
Against Lee Corso led Indiana.
I went to every game but always bought tickets from the "sellers" outside the stadium.
By luck i bought Sec 27 Row 27.
What kismet. My 27th birthday on Oct 27 i sit in Sec 27 Row 27.
Wow.This must mean something significant and special.
As always i had Ufer on my headsets.
With six seconds left my maize n blue daubers were way down.
M was about to tie Indiana 21 to 21.
"Ok ...under center is Wangler at the 45
He goes back ...He's looking for a reciever
He throws downfield to Carter
Carter has it
(Indistinguishable) Carter Scores
(Indistinguishable) Oh My God!!! Carter Scores"
Johnny Wangler to Anthony Carter
Will be heard until another 100 years of
Meeechigan Football is played
(1979 M celebrated 100th Anniversay)
As "Section 24" remembers...
“They’re not even going to try the extra point. Who cares? Who gives a damn?”
Final Score M 27 Indiana 21
The best part of retelling this story is that i actually trying to imitate The Ufer call.
Attempting to reach his level of passion and excitement..
October 17, 1979 - Michigan vs. Indiana: Bob Ufer calls the play as John Wangler throws a touchdown pass to Anthony Carter on the last play of the game.
Oh i noticed it showed the date as Oct 17th not 27th. When you hit 65 you start to question your memory. I was shocked. Have i told this story all these years and had the date wrong?
A quick check shows my memory intact, How could i ever forget?
(#23) Lawrence Ricks?
threw the ball underhanded out of bounds to stop the clock rather then get trapped in bounds, The clock would have run out. He threw it right to Corso who caught it and went fuming into his best
"Donald Duck Imitation". "He cant do that". I didnt think you could either. But...
rules were changed after to prevent that from happening again.Or were they?
