For many, it is not a big deal of course. A little over sixteen years ago my oldest (Brady) was born. We’d learn he had a severe bleeding disorder when he was six days old and we were told he’d not be able to play most sports. Football was out of the question. I was over it quickly because I was just happy to have our little boy.

Thanks to great medical and improving prophylactic care, he’s played soccer and basketball for many years (well beyond what doctors thought he could do already). In May, he asked if he could kick for the football team. I asked a lot of questions because hitting is still definitely not advised. We cleared placekicking with his Hematologist.

He practiced with the special team coordinator (former MSU punter, sadly, lol) all summer. He injured his kicking leg a month ago and rehabbed and played soccer when he could since it is his primary sport. I didn’t think he was going to play today as a result. Instead, he went out in his first game and knocked down a 36yd FG and also hit a FG to send the game into 2OT! De La Salle lost to Brother Rice 27-25 but my son played in a football game. Couldn’t be more proud of this kid. Sorry for the long story but it felt good to write it.

Can’t to watch the Wolverines play some ball now!
