I honestly can’t imagine the frustration he’s had with the system. Talented recruit after talented recruit, I can only imagine the amount of time he feels he’s wasted going after kids just to lose to programs that aren’t doing it clean.

He’s been dealt a short stack of recruiting tools, an impatient and entitled fanbase, and until recently, substandard facilities, and told to go compete for Big Ten Championships and Final Fours on a regular basis. He should not have achieved the level of success he has achieved here given just how stacked the deck has been against him. And yet he has won Big Ten Championships and had a more than acceptable level of tourney success. The program is more than relevant again in the national landscape. His coaching talent and basketball knowledge have really shown through.

And now.....he finally gets his chance to tell the world just how unfair it’s been. His platform to justly point a finger at the cheaters. And what does he do? He says the system isn’t all that bad. He declines to put coaches on blast, to have his 15 minutes telling everyone “DO YOU SEE WHAT WEVE HAD TO DEAL WITH?!?!”. Instead he handles himself with class and stays above the mud-slinging.

John Beilein is a better man than I am (no way could I handle the frustration with the system), and I couldn’t be happier and prouder that he’s our coach. Bravo Mr. Beilein.
