My greatest fear is that this season takes a toll on JB.

He will really have to coach them up this year , a greater effort. Even less leadership and many without experience. The team looked especially young and out of control yesterday. They will need a lot of work and JB is no spring chicken. This team in the long run will become very good , but it needs work and games to mend together, that takes time.SMU is no easy win and looking down the road after this game no one looks easy. We need to get healthy and grow mentally in all phases of the game. ( as you all know) That's a lot to ask from JB and his high expectations from prior seasons.

We are obviously not going to be a great team this year so I'm sure JB is primarily focused on the improvement of the players and team throughout the season. It would be nice to make the NCAA tournament but the bigger goal is to make these players better so we have a shot of winning future Big 10 championships.

Re: I agree with your POV.I just hope it doesn't take a toll on JB.*

JB loves to teach and develop. This is what he does. He knows it's a process.

It's just the nature of coaching college sports. Almost all coaches have up and down seasons, it's just part of the profession, so I don't think it's going to be too hard on JB. He really loves coaching and teaching so he might look at this as a good challenge to make his young team better. Ultimately, he has to be looking beyond this year to compete for championships.

He lost 3 really good players to the NBA; it would be hard for any coach not at Duke or Kentucky to overcome that. He has a young team, and a group that does not shoot as well as his teams in the past.

On the other hand, this team is struggling much more than anyone expected, especially after a very respectable start of the season -- wins over Oregon and Syracuse, a close loss to Villanova. No one saw those losses coming to NJIT and EMU.

It could be a long year in the Big Ten.

Huh? JB has been doing this for 30+ years and you think the season

that is going to burn him out is one where we have a NCAA bubble/NIT team? He's had far worse teams than this. I'm not sure why this particular season is going to "take a toll" on him.

My point is he is older and it's tougher when you are older.

No Coach "K" is older but has a full cupboard to go to, same with Coach Cali and UK. We have literally 2 starting freshmen and then some a year older. Saturday night looked like a college team playing against their own. Demonstration squad. "74
