- Our initial drive was nice although it was a dink and dunk drive that didn't wow me
- WMU gets the ball and drives down for a TD. While that drive was likely saved by the taunting call, it still didn't give me warm and fuzzies about our D
- Only getting 3 after the big Corum KO return had me thinking that we would be in a close game
- We appeared to settle in and we were able to exploit the big difference in talent
- Our speed seemed pretty evident - at every position on D except tackle and in all our skill positions on offense
- Corum looked great. I know some have compared him to Mike Hart but he looks faster to me than Hart. Perhaps a bit like Darren Sproles? We're going to need to find ways to put the ball in his hands.
- I know some like to say Haskins is average. I love Haskins. If you're want to tackle him, you better get your arms around him and not let go. He's got great balance and determination. He provides a nice 1-2 punch with Corum.
- Edwards looked good too. Strong for a freshman. the Corum-Haskins-Edwards combination, IMO, could be the most talented group of backs we've had in over 25 years. It was a shame to lose Charbonnet (because he's also talent) but there are only so many carries to distribute
- We really didn't get to see much from Cade. What I like is that the team seems to play with good rhythm when he's on the field. We saw that last year as well. His lack of size worries me. He will need the O-line to give him space to be effective (so he can see downfield and not get balls batted down). JJ obviously showed is talent. I like is arm strength on the throw to Baldwin but I also liked his ability to avoid the rush and keep his eyes downfield to find Baldwin.
- The Oline did well in pass protection but was inconsistent on run plays. We can't afford two many of the no gainers and we saw far too many of those. But it's early in the season and sometimes it takes some time for a line to come together (especially when we could have been missing our top lineman.
- I like the speed of our receivers. Bell getting hurt was terrible. It came on the heels of 3 straight players he had - the one handed catch that was overturned, the TD pass, and the punt return where he got hurt. It's very sad if it costs him his senior year. It's good that we got Baldwin because he will need to step in. We really only have 2 receivers with length (Johnson and Baldwin). It would be nice if we used our tight ends for throws downfield.
- At least yesterday, we seemed to be playing a bend but don't break D. That may be what see all year considering that the weaknesses of the defense are at CB and DT. I didn't really mind giving up the long out throws. Those throws require a QB with a strong arm and are not necessarily easy to complete.
- Hutchinson was as good as advertised. I thought the linebackers played well. I know Ross was criticized but he had at least 2 huge hits. He may have made a couple of mistakes but he does play aggressive. We definitely played with energy.
- We are going to need to generate turnovers.
- The WMU QB may have only been sacked once but he took a lot of big hits.
- Where did Moody get the huge leg? I liked how he kicked some balls through the end zone and other kicks he hit very high and our coverage was able to pin them deep. I think that's planned and keeps their returners guessing.
- Robbins punts the ball very high and it's tough to get returns off of him.
Overall, I was happy with the performance. We don't look like a top 10 team but we look more energized and better coached than recent teams. My biggest worry is whether the D can hold up on the better teams in the conference.
