with Rocky as the center of the universe. He's now a few years past the second win over Creed and now rich and world famous. he's doing all these publicity stunts like the staged fight with Hulk Hogan, modeling and advertising, endless appearances and promotional nonsense...he's become a glamour boy and is losing focus and getting soft.
Meanwhile they cut to Clubber Lang and he's grinding in some dingy basement...anger seething. He wants a piece of the pretty boy and to take his head off.
You get where I'm going..kind of feels like that's what's happening with our program (the softening). I never thought it possible but has harbaugh become a victim of his own success and the adulation he's received from this fan base? I didn't think he was actually trying to get so much attention and that all the antics have been so intentional, but it appears it has been.
Now it seems like all the promotional stuff has made this program soft - maybe it's just the youth and offensive issues we'll have to see...but we looked soft against sparty for the first time since hoke.
While mork (clubber lang in my analogy) keeps chugging away in his dingy basement without any spotlights and cameras and twitters keeping his program focused and angry and determined, our guy is:
Jumping into pools, starting an amazon series, yucking it up with his family on a weekly podcast that has little to do with football, planning next year's big field trip, signing day tv show, tweeting and who knows what else that isn't football.
What happened to glamour Rocky when he faced clubber lang? We just saw it Saturday night. We were soft, unprepared and got punked yet again by dantonio.
What is also happening is that other schools are pointing all this out to recruits and the luster is off this program right now. Hard nosed football kids with an eye on the next level or simply "chip on their shoulder" kids don't care about a signing day event on tv, Jordan on their jersey, going to Italy and having a glamour boy coach and another NFL extra in the coaching booth. they want to become better football players and compete for championships. Saban, belichek, Sweeney, Meyer and dare I say dantonio have not needed ANY of the flash we've been seeing in order to build their programs - in fact they avoid attention at all costs. perhaps it's their other advantages that we won't stoop to that Harbaugh is trying to counter with glitz I don't know but I'm concerned.
I'm sure I'm overreacting to one bad loss but that loss was awful and unacceptable. and the foreboding sense of doom watching this offense over the preceding 4 games - this game was a symptom of what appears to me to be much bigger problems if this doesn't get fixed right away.
Indiana has a better defense than Cincinnati, AirForce and Purdue.
