Most surprising flop? MSU, ND, or Oregon (link)

I would say ND. Knew their "D" took a hit, but thought they'd have enough "O" to cover it. Plus with all the injuries they went through last year thought their depth that got PT last year would step up.
MSU lost their trenches both sides of the ball, especially on the "O" line. Couple that with a less than dynamic QB. Drop off could be expected.
Ducks "D" sucked last year & when Adams was out of the lineup "O" struggled. Again, not getting a "B" grade or better QB not enough to overcome crappy "D".

Yeah, I think it's Notre Dame too. This team played in the Fiesta Bowl last year --- they were pretty damn good in 2015!!! They lost a lot less vs. a team like Michigan State. No excuse for this sort of fall off.

As the article pointed out --- it's not just that Notre Dame has lost. But rather, look at the 5 teams they've lost to. MSU, Duke, NC State, Texas, and Stanford. None of them have a single vote in either poll! That is kind of a crazy fact.

Oregon's flop one could sort of see coming. I don't understand how Oregon's defense got this bad, but they had a pretty average defense even in 2014, when they played in the title game. I know Phil Knight was at the 49ers game on Sunday: that wasn't accidental, there's no doubt that he talked to Chip Kelly. But offensive help isn't what Oregon needs here in the short term. They gotta clean up their defense first.

MSU has been a colossal flop themselves, but they did beat ND. So ND "wins" this question.

Notre Dame by a mile!!! They have a lot of recruiting talent and it just all fell to shambles. Having said that, ND has been in every game but just can't close it out. MSU only returned 9 of 22 starters and so I expected them to likely end up with 3 losses but they have not been meeting expectations either. Oregon, no surprise - they hired Brady "pad level" Hoke as their D-coordinator. He can recruit but the man can not coach in a Power 5 league.

I hope Harbaugh hires Hoke to coach the D-line in the event Mattison retires in the next couple years.

Wait is this is a Michigan fan site??? Why in god's name would we ever want Hoke back??? He recruited well but he did not know how to develop talent. While Hoke is a good recruit, JH is 10x better so it's not like we need tons of help there. Also, are you guys watching what he is doing at Oregon??? They are 126th in the country in points given up. Don't forget that his first 2 years when he did well on D, it was with Rich Rod's guys. His own guys were a complete disaster!!!

Hoke is a great guy, but I would prefer not to see him back with this program. Actually, I would love for him to go become the DC for OSU so that they could give up 50 points/game as well.
