Discovered this morning that someone had filed a federal tax return using our names and social security numbers. Spent hours making phone calls to Turbotax, IRS, my bank, Equifax, etc. to protect us. What a nightmare. The bogus return was also filed on Turbotax with a different address and email. I had already started my return prior to the bogus filing, meaning that Turbotax has no cross check when two returns with identical social security numbers are in process at the same time, even when the address and email are different - should be a huge red flag. Bad day on and off the court.
