I am sure Jack sees this as a time where he is presented a crossroad after being on a very exciting but taxing and grueling road for four years (if you count Michigan football only, but really high level hs football can be part of that road too). On the point of the crossroads, one road goes for the rest of his life and he inevitably has to take that road. It will be different, it will have a different type of demand, it will involve possibly a family, perhaps a business but certainly work in some form. The other road is one year, has a lot more physically demanding terrain, and it is a road he has taken for four years already so he is familiar with the demands and toll it will take. It also leads back to the raid aforementioned.
Not an easy decision. Certainly great points can be made for either decision. It comes down to the man, what he sees before him, as well as what he sees inside. I'm sure JM struggled with it for a long time, but taking it for face value it shows a lot of maturity and IMO is an example of of what is occurring more and more in football. As a high level football player, it is such an incredibly taxing endeavor to take on, if there is not an end goal that lights up your soul, makes you jump out of bed and puts a smile on your face, it's hard to keep with the vicious demands of the sport. Life begins after football, that's inevitable. We saw a star Patrick Willis make a similar decision this past week and he is walking away from what, $5-7M/year? (I'm guessing). At some point you have to get off the horse and walk the walk of life, at what point that is depends on the circumstance, and the person. Most times it is a forced change, sometimes it is under a man's own decision. Best of Luck to Jack, he worked his tail off for UM on the field and off. I'm a little nervous about where this leaves us at center but we will find out for sure. My hope is Kugler grabs the opportunity and runs with it, my thought is we see Glasgow there to start the season.
