Big Ten players from media days talking about Michigan players. Very interesting stuff. Well done by Spath. It looks like he is going to be staying in the area, too, and be a contributor on WTKA.

I came here to post on this topic but I was beaten to it. Fascinating. In a nutshell...(paraphrasing)

one player said his team didn't really fear Lewis because of his lack of int's although his supporters respond that he wasn't in as many cover 2's.

Opposing player criticized the guards on UM. Says one guy messes up disproportionately. HIs first name may be one of the names on South Park series.

High praise for Graham Glasgow. Smart player. Will be missed. Injury to Ryan Glasgow exposed the UM linebackers (slow to the edge) which forced the safeties out of middle. (My comment...UM may have a similar problems this year but Peppers may help. Peppers may be the key to make UM a dominant defense although they have Glasgow back).

Harbaugh and staff are legit offensive play callers...implement new plays every week (up to 40) and confuse defenses. We have high end coaches. Surprise.

Smith is an animal when he is close to the goal line. Can't tackle him with a db. Chesson really developed. Wormley is much better than people think. Strong. (My comment...UM may have a line for the ages this year...Gary, Wormley, Glasgow and Hurst, etc.)

Basically UM is well coached and has more speed at lb'er which may help against the OSU spread.

I have high hopes that Kalis will actually block somebody this season. It's going to happen.

Like your optimism. One of the comments was that the key is to not have such a big gap between the gaps between the guards as they are pulling?

I think you are right...another year of refining the blocks and scheme should help. That is something Skene always harps on...the time it takes to develop chemistry. To know where your partner is and the defender can't shoot between the two olineman. If you have that wall so to speak then the rb can run away from the defender.

Amazing how the little nuances of an OL make all the difference in the world. I think WE all recognize how much coaching matters. I remember this line...something like Pete Carroll can win with his team at USC and then beat you with your team.

I really think that is something we haven't seen in a long time if EVER. That UM has a coach who can win 90% of the time if the talent is equal and at UM he is going to have better talent than 97% of the teams so you can do the math.

To be fair, Kalis had the misfortune of Funk as his OL coach for his first couple years. Drevno undoubtedly had to deprogram all the OL from that disaster, and some more than others. This will be the 2nd season Kalis receives actual coaching, so it's possible he could improve to an average player at some point.

Team is better because we have great players that are no longer mostly freshmen and sophomore eligibility (see offense 2 years ago). Defense was very good 2 years ago AND was young. That is the reason we will have one of the best, if not the best defense, in the country, and the overall reason we will be competing for a national championship.

All the talk is great. And even most opposing players will have good things to say about their opponents when interviewed. All this needs to translate on the field. If the weak link gets exposed it brings the whole product down. Star power is great, but work as a well oiled machine (see 1997) and the results will be what everyone wants!
