Based on expectations from the actual program's perspective, which are also the same as the program's fanbase, basically WE JUST WANT OUR TEAM TO WIN, RIGHT? Our TEAM.
Michigan!
I have witnessed unsurpassed individual greatness on the football field from some awesome talent in Maize and Blue.
Charles Woodson put a team on his back that had an offense that would've put many of the more dare I say, "sensitive" posters on this board in the hospital. That's why he won the Heisman over Manning. Greatness on O, D, and Special teams. Five Star.
I've watched career yardage-leaders at their respective positions: Mike Hart and Chad Henne, along with star Left OT Jake Long go OFer vs OSU. I felt terrible about that App State team as the season played out, and was far from strutting around bragging about how Long was going first in the draft.
LOVED Denard. LOVED HIM. His name is all over the Michigan record book.
Dominant. But he was one of a few bright rays - Brandon Graham, Lewan and Frank Clark (regardless of our feelings personally abouth those two), Jake Ryan, Jeremy Gallon...etc.
Gallon and Denard in particular can embellish how I feel about their performances:
Gallon is 2nd in career receiving yardage, and receptions, but is mostly forgotten by Michigan fans because it happened on some terrible teams.
Denard is the top yards producer in Michigan history by 1345 yards, with the top two seasons ever in total yardage- but despite the occasional glimpses of joy I received due to his play, his tenure as Michigan's QB was a bad time for Michigan football (through no fault of his own, or course).
It's not that I'm not very proud that these players suited up in maize and blue..I'm grateful for all of those who suited up and especially those who were great.
It's just that, in regards to sports I HATE losing, and LOVE winning so much that anything else is a distant second in consideration...and I don't think that I'm alone in feeling that way.
I mean, some posters bring up so much stuff besides winning, and in spite of winning or not, I feel that we aren't even following the same game.
Arguing earlier with infamous poster @Highbury, I'm starting to realize that some on here believe that losing recruits is worse than losing on the field, and that ancillary things like how much NIL the players get, and how much the HC/Coaching staff makes, or who throws for the most yards and TDs...All that fluffy stuff on the outside of football IS football.
It throws me off to read about Caleb William's "success" at USC, as if it was only about HIS accomplishments without any consideration for the rest of the team, the program, or the entire fanbase...It's as if I should be sitting on my couch rooting more for a recruit to get paid, than for my team to win...
I don't, and I can't overlook wins to make a point...there are no more salient points to be made other than wins.
It's odd that now that we're paying players big money, the demands that they win big seem not to have followed. In fact, many can look like crap then go to the next program and demand more $.
I'm just glad we're actually winning. Michigan is in their best 3-year stretch in modern program history...and some of you are acting as if this isn't special at all, and in fact, some type of bad situation...
Look back in time. Or up on this post, and you will be reminded what a truly bad situation looks like, and no amount of Heismans, or 1st rounders are balms for losing for anyone but the players themselves, and I'd bet that those wouldn't be Michigan players.
As the #1 team in the BCS, perhaps we should start acting like the fans of a team that most fanbases would KILL to have representing them.
