Players to watch:
Whop Philyor - WR
Prediction:
Meh. Nothing too impressive from Indiana on paper. They won a turnover battle against PSU (3-2) but in every other phase of that game, were outplayed. Penn State outgained IU 488-211, outrushed 250-41 and out passed 238-170. First downs were 27-16 and TOP was 40 minutes to 19. Penix was also not very good despite his heroic game winning OT touchdown.

Last week against Rutgers they looked much better through the air but still struggled to run the ball and their defense was okay at best. Despite a 3-0 turnover margin that gave IU 14 of their points in a combined 34 yards of field, they weren't overwhelming against RU. After a pitiful 1.6 yards per rush against Penn State, they followed it up with just 2.7 on the ground against Rutgers. Their rush defense on the other hand gave up 3.7 yards per carry to Rutgers and 4.8 to Penn State. Indiana has been gifted bad QB play by both of their opponents thus far resulting in 5 interceptions and many short fields. Just as Rutgers gave them 14 points off of 34 combined yards of field off turnovers, so did Penn State on two IU touchdown drives of a combined 29 yards.

Penix was nothing special against Penn State and did about what you would expect any QB to do against Rutgers, though he actually had a lower completion percentage against Rutgers than Rocky Lombardi did. So despite how awful Michigan's pass defense was last week against the deep ball, perhaps we can take solice in the fact that Penix has only completed 2 passes for more than 20 yards so far. One was a 21 yard pass against Penn State and a 63 yarder last week.

Just don't get burned deep like last week... Don't turn it over on offense and I really don't see much of a threat. No excuses to not be able to run the ball (at least to the outside if last week is any indication). None of us saw a threat last week either but Indiana is getting a lot of love for a gritty win and not much else around it. I'm going to give Michigan the benefit of the doubt that last week was slightly flukey and that this is a team that is still good enough to take care of Indiana who is not as impressive as their ranking suggests. I also have to imagine we can't possibly have another game anywhere near as bad as last week when it comes to pass defense. I would like to think we're out for atonement. A repeat of last week and we're in trouble.

Michigan wins 35-24

This years predictions:

34-17 vs Minnesota (49-24 actual)
52-13 vs Michigan State (yikes)
