Mattison Permanent DC?

Harbaugh would have made him DC when he got to U of M, if he wanted him for DC. It will definitely go to another person and not on the current staff.

If we can't do better than "26 seconds" Mattison, I am very concerned.
Back to corners 10 yards off the ball, folks.

To be fair, Mattison wanted to play more press coverage in 2014 but the poor CB play forced him to back off it. Having a linebacker coach (Manning) try to coach the corners probably wasn't Hoke's best decision.

I remember him making the excuse that we didn't have good enough corners on the roster, something supposed ace recruiter Mattison should have remedied.

Our cornerback recruiting has been fine. Developing them was the issue, and that fell outside of his duties. Manning quite simply should never have been coaching the secondary.

I'm not saying he's my top choice for the job, to be clear. I think we need a younger guy. Just that it was apparent from the ND game last year that our corners weren't going to be able to handle press coverage.

I believe Manning only coached secondary the one year, so clearly it's not all on him the other years when "26 seconds" employed his patented 10 yds off the ball and no pass rush strategy.

I read Mattisen asked to be a position coach and would like to retire in AA2

It's true, Mattison doesn't want the DC job. He is happy being the D line coach and recruiter. His daughter and granddaughter live in AA. He will probably retire in 2-3 years.

I have also recently heard this. Mike Zordich could easily coordinate but also heard he did not want that responsibility. Harbaugh will hire a good DC that will be inheriting a great coaching staff. I am not worried the least bit.

what ever happened to ron engish who worked for coach carr, the players really seem to like him,was he not a good d.c.

English actually liked having a pass rush and creating negative plays, so he's philosophically different than "26 seconds" Mattison.
