He has been in the league EIGHT seasons.
Name me one single big win. Name me ONE. He has none.
He is 5 wins and 56 losses against teams with winning records. Not against Super Bowl teams mind you .... simply teams that are over 500. And that record has not improved materially over the years. So, it is not simply that he has played on bad teams early on.
The analogy is the 5* college recruit that fans will apologize for until he retires simply because he "had so much potential and a strong arm". Think Shane Morris. Each has made breathtaking throws but neither has ever been consistent enough to win when it matters.
Stafford's throws are rarely spot on the money. He might make a few but not consistently. Truly gifted QBs, WINNING QBs put their throws on the money virtually every time .... and under pressure in the clutch. Like Tom Brady. You want to see a QB with the potential to win big games and take the team to championships. It is not necessarily the one with the strongest arm. It is the one who delivers the consistent strikes under pressure.
If you watch him, Stafford FEASTS on teams and creates his stats ..... UNTIL the other team blitzes. Watch him in his next game for this. Stafford is horrific .... HORRIFIC ... when he is blitzed and has to make quick decisions.
Interestingly, there is a QB on the Lions that is outstanding at delivering under pressure. His name is Jake Rudock. Yes, a backup. So was Kirk Cousins when he started. So was Tom Brady, for that matter.
As a Lions fan, we cannot afford to pay Stafford to be the highest paid player in the NFL and to crush our salary structure. It is time to cut bait. The guy has never won any games of note and never will.
