So Harbaugh wants him to sign a waiver saying he can't play football if he comes to Michigan even though the doctors are saying he can return to full strength?

Odd to say the least...and I don't like it.

It's probably a gracious way of saying you've had too many injuries to play for us but we'll still honor your scollie academically...kids back out of these arrangements that aren't binding I think it makes sense and gives him a legitimate option

Shut up! The poor kid has two torn ACLs and hasn't even played a snap in college yet. Football can be a liability to some. He has options elsewhere if he can play.

The Metro Detroit coaches are a tight knit group and do not take slights and the perceived dissing of their athletes very well. They have long memories and are not apt to forgive or forget such behavior towards them. I only look to the problem with the King program and coach over the handling of the Dennis Norfleet situation. I think you do not want to burn bridges in one of few talent rich parts of Michigan. It might take some effort to make it right in their eyes.

That assumes a lot including that UM burned bridges re Norfleet, I don't think they did and getting Corley interested again after the summer kerfuffle is an indicator that UM can overcome such perceptions. Coaches want their players to go to places like UM I don't think in state programs are going to lock them out over a bad injury like this

He gets a free education and doesn't have to suffer any more wear and tear on his body. That's probably the smart move since the NFL is extremely, extremely unlikely.

Football is a brutal sport. I have to think many former players have regrets when they are hobbling around in the 40s and 50s while non-players can be much more active into their 70s and beyond.

It's his doctor that is saying that, not a doctor that works with athletes on a daily basis. This poor kid has not played a full season in 4 years,
and you want to give him a athletic scholarship? That type of thinking does not win you football games at this level.

It's not like Harbaugh is going all SEC on him and bringing him to campus only to say he doesn't have a scholarship. He's offered him an option given the state of things, Matt can now make a decision long before signing day

This. Harbaugh is giving him PLENTY of time to decide if he wants an education from Michigan or would like to pursue football at another school. He has torn his ACL at least twice, and has had at least 3 season ending injuries. It's an unfortunate situation for a kid with a ton of potential, but the kid has 4 months to decide what he wants to do, not a few days.
