Looks like the Illini have changed their colors to gray and white.

How dorky. Must really suck not to have cool school colors and unis that you have to change them all the time, glad we don't.

So glad Dave and his bumblebee unis are gone and all but forgotten.
I always dislike when schools stupidly wear non-school colors for no apparent reason.
Northwestern's colors are purple and white. For some reason they often wear black jerseys. TUOS is scarlet and gray, yet they stupidly wore all black recently.

ChicagoBlueFan, I agree with you completely. This idea of having a different uniform than the team colors for a single game just feels like a crass money grab by the uniform company and the university. They can sell fans all sorts of new clothing that they will only wear for a short while. In the case of Ohio State they wanted everyone to wear black in the game against Penn State to "Black Out" Ohio Stadium. I assume that is was supposed to be a counter to Penn State's white out, but since white is the Lions normal color a Penn State white out makes sense and is traditional. Just as Maize and Blue is Michigan's colors, Scarlet and Grey should always be Ohio State's uniform colors. I certainly hope your team does not allow itself to go down the "Special" uniform path again in the future (that bumblebee look was not exactly flattering). As an Ohio State supporter, I was not happy at all about see the team playing in non OSU colors. Unfortunately, I suspect we will see more of the same in the future :-(

I agree. The bumblebee thing was atrocious. Did I hear correctly that some OSU equipment guy had to put like 9,000 helmet stickers on those black helmets for that game?

I don't know if it was only one person, but I did read that the equipment staff had to place the stickers on the black helmets. I would have thought they would have had the players do it for themselves, but apparently that is not how it was done.

I prefer traditional colors, but then again, my eligibility ran out a long long time ago. If the kids like them, I'm ok with it. In the overall scheme of things it's pretty irrelevant and once I start complaining about "Those dang new fangled uniforms", then I'm going to have to start yelling at kids to get off my lawn.

I agree. I don't want to act all old & crotchety either but I think teams with classic traditional unis & helmets that have been voted for decades as the tops in college football shouldn't mess with tradition. Nor should they need to. The huge alumni base & fanbase of schools like UM, OSU, ND, PSU, etc. already spend tons of apparel dollars. I understand the players & recruits think they're cool but they also get all that garb for free. The fans have to go out & buy it. Hence, filling the pockets of the apparel company & the university through licensing. Seems like a lot of wasted money all the way around for a lot of different people. Plus I think the look usually sucks!

Go Blue!

I don't like the uni changes for a couple reasons one being That Uni's are instant recognition if traditional. Some are silly looking. One thing I think would be cool would for the M -OSU game would be if both teams wore home uni's for a home and home or maybe even beyond. If we could somehow get an exclusivity right to that idea It would be another thing that makes it unique. Scarlet and Grey and Maize and Blue. Can you see it?

With this attitude, pretty soon you are Maryland.

As long as we're fixing the uniforms, why not change the fight song and mascot, too? Why not? What are you, some kind of old guy?

I sure am. Sixty seven if I remember correctly. I used to yell at kids on my lawn but I can't see through the picture window anymore.
