interesting to look at the stars according to Rivals.

Dawkins...3 star(rivals)2 (insiders)...plays like a 4 star...looks potentially like a 5 star and if you watch him...sometimes he looks like an NBA starting guard. This has to be the steal of the decade by JB. I wouldn't have to debate whether I would trade a sophomore Dawkins for a sophomore Stauskas. Yes...I know Stauskas for BT player of the year and an outstanding player.

My point...who would you give up for Dawkins in the last 10 years of UM bball. Well...I would trade Dawkins for Burke. Any names that come to mind? Serious. Same year of development. I must be missing someone. McGary? He didn't play. GR3...no. Who am I missing...got to be someone. LeVert? Yes but close. THJ? I don't know. Manny?

Guy looks really good when he is on. Maybe we should talk about other sophomores in the Big Ten in the past 10 years. Give me some names. Maybe he stinks up the joint here and there but that guy looks like he can be a star.

I'm sorry. Did you just say you wouldn't trade this year's Aubrey Dawkins for sophomore year Nik Stauskas? What the heck? Dawkins has potential, but he isn't even close to as dominant as Nik was as a sophomore. Nik was elite offensively, not just shooting. He was a great finisher in the lane and a fantastic passer.

At this point Dawkins is a nice catch and shoot player and a fantastic athlete that can really go up for a dunk. But he has little ability to create off the dribble and isn't a very good passer which are both massively important skills.

not really

yes, really. He shot 50% on 2 pt attempts. He shot 65% on attempts at the rim, despite only being assisted on 35% of those attempts (aka alley oops and backdoor cuts and transition). Totals were 52/80 at the rim with 18 assisted buckets. By comparison that season, GR3 was 80/96 at the rim but 48 of those were assisted. On unassisted attempts (aka taking the ball to the hole usually in traffic), Nik was 34/62 (55%) and GR3 was 32/48 (67%). Nik wasn't quite GR3 good in traffic, but he was damn effective.

besides, you implying this kid couldn't finish?

You'd take Dawkins over Nik? Like, for real? Wow. Nik was about as an offensively complete perimeter player that you will find at the college level. He had size, handle, passing ability/creativity and could get his own shot (whether mid-range or in the lane). And was an absolutely elite shooter from deep. And that doesn't even mention mental toughness/confidence/swag,etc... There is a reason he was a lottery pick.

on low volume. decent but definitely not great.

Just stop, you are embarrassing yourself. You were wrong. It's OK. Nik did not have a low volume of shots at the rim, he had a very high volume for a guard. And it wasn't decent, it was very good percentage that he made for a guard.

It's the definition of not average for that usage. Give it up. The percentage and attempts are way, way, way above average for a guard. Hell, he had the 2nd most attempts at the rim on the entire team including centers. Without looking up every player in the nation, I'd bet he was top 5-10% nationally among guards that season.

great comeback. You really saved yourself with that one. Zero evidence to support your position. And did you even watch the highlight video I embedded for you? How many 7 footers does he need to dunk on?

I can see why you are still pitching the perfect game on number of posts liked so far.

Oladipo....great finisher...Jerian Grant great finisher...Nik was average.

Average compared to what? He was great for a guard. There are approximately 900 starting guards in D1 in any given year. Nik was great at scoring in the lane. His handle was excellent and he converted a good percentage once he got there.

But you cite Jerian Grant who was 18/33 on solo drives to the rim the same season? Oladipo was 82/157 in his last season. And that's elite compared to Nik being 34/62? Really? Are you just math impaired or is it visual impairment also?

It seems his only criteria is relatively undersized guards with big hops.

Lol assisted doesn't mean easy or Michigan would have someone who could replicate what GR3 did.

If Nik is a great finisher than Caris must be God and yet no scouting report of either would call them great finishers

Does he still look like a guy you wouldn't trade for the Big Ten POY?

Guys guys. I apologize for not truly explaining the context. Sometimes this gets lost in translation and communication. My apology. Sometimes I even have to go back and read the INTENT of the post.

Here is what I was saying. I am being completely honest here and again this wasn't a very good job on my part.

I was saying I wouldn't trade Dawkins for Stauskas at the same point in time. So again...I am saying before the start of the sophomore year (same point in time) as of the post...that I wouldn't trade Dawkins after his frosh year (end) for a Stauskas end of his frosh year at the time of the post.

My bad. I can understand where someone read the post and then takes Dawkins at that point and compares Stauskas to his entire sophomore year. My bad. I think you now understand the 'context' of my point.

So let me ask you. Who would you at the START of the sophomore year want Dawkins or Stauskas.

Fair enough?

I'd still take Stauskas. He was a far more complete player his freshman season than Dawkins was. He had very good numbers as the ball handler in the pick and roll (albeit limited chances), a good assist rate, and just a much better all around game.

Remember how we used to talk about how Nik was not just a shooter? As a freshman, Aubrey was just a shooter.

Nik was flat out nasty his sophomore year....which is the reason he won Big Ten player of the year and was a lottery pick in the NBA draft. Offensively he was a phenomenal player. He was probably the best three point shooter in the country but also had a nice mid range game and took the ball to the basket very nicely. I'd be thrilled if we got another player that was able to duplicate his sophomore season.
