(Disclaimer - my son plays BOTH travel ball & LL, I don't need opinions on why one is better than the other. I am also well aware of the differences between USA Bats and open/travel/USSSA bats - I know the USA bats are "dead", I"m just trying to make the best choice from that group)

OK so my 9-going-on-10 year old son plays both LL and travel baseball. I feel good about his travel bat for 1 more year, but we are in the market for a new USA Bat for LL, as we slopped through this year without one since they were all new and hard to get a read on what was good.

So Little League dads - what USA Bat does your son have, and are YOU happy with the purchase? His last couple bats have been 2-piece aluminum/hybrid Eastons and we've been happy with them. But we were looking at the 30/20 sizes, the Easton Ghost in that size was disqualified/decertified. I like what I read about the LS Select 718, but all those LS bats look like a wedge to me - fat part of the barrel is very short - I like the longer barrels of the Eastons. The 718 is also damn expensive and without the chance to hit with one, that price and shape scare me.

Anyone have the Easton Beast 30/20 and like it? Should i get the Ghost in a 31 and just grow into it? Anyone have the 718?

(Yes I've read tons of reviews, even a couple websites that try to rank them)

If it matters, he's a good size kid, moved to clean up this year for his GOOD travel team, but I think his K rate is a little high, and I think he generates power by "cheating" opening up too hard/early and is kind of skinnier and weaker armed that usual clean up hitters. Also made the 9-10 state tournament team as a 9-year old that lost in the semis this year, but was totally outclassed, lost his confidence (a pretty soft kid) and struggled badly against 10 year old pitching (I'm realistic about things, he made the team for his bat, and then didn't hit a lick, was tough as a dad, but kid had an awesome time and experience). Just throwing this stuff in for those who get into swing type, end loaded, ect.
