Are you really totally shocked ? Jon Jansen said it well. We have 2 teams. We have a good defense that is say a Top 10 in the country type unit , that will keep you in games.
This offense is arguably in the bottom half of the conference. Last night , ( yes the rain hurt being behind ) showed everyone what we should have known. We have poor QB play which Jim H clearly knows , and with Wilton he has a kid who make less mistakes and that can play to his defense. Turnovers create short fields. OKorn turns it over. He may make more plays , but his tendency to turn it over hurts his defense.
Go by position group. We know QB is not a strong group. Is running back ? We bounce around from Issac , to Evans to Higdon hoping to find the " guy ". They are average backs at best. Then put them behind an O line which is terrible on one side , running against defenses which have zero fear of our passing game , which would make Barry Sanders average.
Our O line on the right side is terrible. Will they be better in a year or so ? Probably but not now or this season as they need time. The left side clearly is much better but our lines have struggled for years and we have not had decent backs either. This leads into why we cannot throw well , which allows defenses to put their guys close to the line of scrimmage to force us to try and pass.
Our receivers are young , raw and minus a leader like a Tai Streets. Perry is as close as we gave but just not as good. They WILL be a good group. Not yet though.
Face it. This is a 3-5 loss team. We need to get a QB that is not a 1 season stop gap guy ( Rudock or O Korn ) or an average limited guy like Wilton to lead the program. I hope we gave one. We need a real quality back to do the same. Then we need the current kids to get better with time. It's not what folks want to hear. But we are NOT Bama or Clemson . But then who else is ?
Take off the Maize and Blue glasses and see this team truly for what it is. Good defense , bad offense that cannot overcome errors but can win or lose ANY game on the schedule and also prepare to hear shit all year from East Landfill.
GO BLUE !
