Let me ask a fair question for the board...

I understand trying to do the satellite camps. I understand the Harbaugh/Carroll youthful schtick. You have to be true to your personality or kids will see through it. I always thought Hoke came across as a goofball. Dantonio comes across hard wired. The bottom line is every coach has their own persona.

All that being said is Harbaugh pushing the envelope too far and what is the point of the whole schtick. His recent 'activities' seem like it is causing a backlash. Is he just hyperactive? They call it Add? Is he trying to resonate with certain communities (recruiting) or is it ego driven?

I guess if the media keeps giving him the attention for 'news/money' then what can you do. I just think coach Harbaugh is going over the top and needs to scale it back. Less is more in this instance.

Your thoughts? I get the impression he is a different person in the locker room and on the field but just don't understand what the end game is for all the antics. Diminishing value?

I love what Harbaugh is doing. I don't see any backlash.

All coaches have their personality quirks that may rub some people the wrong way. The bottom line will be: Does Harbaugh win, stay within the rules, and graduate his players? So far the answer to all three questions is "yes."

I personally don't see anything wrong with what he's doing. Take the Migos concert he was on stage at. To me that's him just getting involved with the fans, the students, the community. He's a cool coach, and you can guarantee any player that goes to AA and plays for him, he will fight for that player.

Meh.

At this point, if he changes the cereal he has in the morning, the press will run with it. It's a self feeding machine and it's not like Harbaugh calls pressers on his own. He doesn't run from a mike, that's for sure.

How will Harbaugh come out of this looking bad? He got a ton of publicity from the camps, mostly positive and we got a recruiting boost. Now he's making Saban and the rest of the SEC and NCAA look like shit for making a rule that is going to be overturned soon anyway. Meanwhile Harbaugh looks like the peoples champ to all recruits across the country. He played this out perfectly and he will be back doing his satellite camps again in no time.

I Think that the bottom line ends up being whether Harbaugh wins or not. And by win I'm talking consistent double digit win seasons, conference championships, beating OSU and MSU, and have a National Championship within 5 years.

He has some quirks to his personality that some might see as a turnoff, some might see as a positive, and the rest could care less as long as he's doing what I mentioned in the first paragraph.

I agree with Reality Man that some of his schtick may get pushed too far at times, but as long as he adjusts accordingly there shouldn't be long lasting effects. As time goes on however, like any strong personality, especially unique strong personalities, he has to be careful not to become a caricature of himself.
