McKeesport (Pa.) three-star athlete Khaleke Hudson was one of the key official visitors on Michigan's campus last weekend. To a certain extent, it was somewhat surprising that the No. 14 senior in Pennsylvania didn't commit while in town. The 5-11, 204-pounder has been rising up Michigan's recruiting board, despite his longer-standing relationships with other programs (namely Penn State and Pitt).
Those other schools - who prior to the visit thought they had an advantage for being in the game longer - think that Hudson may not be on the board for long. The Michigan staff is expected to see Hudson in-home Thursday (and given the fact that five U-M coaches visited cornerback David Long last night, it may be a significant portion of the staff), and the Panthers' coaches are concerned that Hudson is going to come off the board at that time - which wouldn't surprise us one bit.
"It seems like it's leaning that way," our sources in the Steel City said. "[Pitt's staff] thinks Michigan is going to try to close him that day, and keep him from taking the PSU or Pitt visits. He's got a lot of ties to those schools though. I wonder if he would cancel those visits, whether committed or not."
While we do think that U-M is the heavy favorite for Hudson on the heels of his official trip to Ann Arbor, the question becomes whether it's worth pushing for a commitment if the U-M staff isn't certain they can convince him to refrain from visiting those schools in the immediate aftermath. The coaches want him badly, and when that's the case, they've tried to discourage commits from visiting schools that they see as a serious threat (which is another reason why fans shouldn't sweat Michael Onwenu's visit to Michigan State this weekend - it certainly isn't worrying the staff).
Michigan is already on commitment watch for Thursday with Long making his college choice on ESPNU, and if they're comfortable taking Hudson even if he doesn't want to cancel those visits (or if they can convince him not to take either trip), it could be a double-dip.
