I was watching at work so needed to watch again to really see the details. We fought hard.
A few things that I noticed:
- Oregons speed really bothered Mo and MAAR, in particular. They both seemed to rush every part of their game.
- DR, while he struggled at times on D, played a pretty solid game given his speed disadvantage
- Irvin really played a hell of a game. He hit some really big shots and seemed ready for the moment. Good for him.
- Walton was very good, but slightly off. His early shots were a bit rushed, he passed on some open looks, but he still almost pulled them through.
- When they dragged across the key, defensively we could not keep up with them, and that action started killing us. Wonder why we didn't start switching and providing more help. I suppose we didn't want the kick out but they really were able to score when they really needed it.
- The Oregon D is actually quite good. They are really fast and help each other very well. Every guy on that team could guard one on one.
- The block out, just nothing to say. DJ was sleeping, plain and simple. That will haunt him.
- without Mo or MAAR contributing (and at times liabilities), we just couldn't stretch them on defense. We got very little action to the rim too, as everyone seemed scared to take it at the collapsing D.
- I mentioned it yesterday, they needed to go after Brooks. Should have forced switches and had DJ and Mo try to get him in foul trouble. Nobody on Oregon even flirted with trouble.
The rewatch, we played a gutsy game and almost stole one. I am not sure I can say definitively we were the better team. That is a very athletic Oregon squad who also didn't make some shots they probably expect to make. Who would have thought these two teams would play a sub 70 game?
Would have loved to see DW hit that shot. What a great way that would have been to move on. I am not so sure we would have been able to hang with Kansas though. They have even more horses than Oregon, so I am thinking that with home court would have just been a tough game.
Proud of the boys. Definitely still hurting but I think we got just about everything they had, and thats all you can ask, in the end.
This time of year always bums me out. Long time till football, baseball is great but it's a long season. Not an NBA guy at all. Time to spend more weekend time with the kids now
