Just for the record. So everyone is on the same page. If you are o.k.

with the new era of recruiting at UM (that's fine) then we can all agree on the following.

1. When other programs start telling kids that they are going to be left out of the UM class 1-2 weeks before signing date then you won't complain right? When these kids get nervous and want to go elsewhere because they aren't quite sure they won't be left out in the cold. Guys like Metellus and others feel like they may not make the cut-off?

2. When you get those decommitments then it's fair game right?

3. You are o.k. with getting a better player but when a player gets a better offer in theory based on recent history (ND or USC or Alabama) then we all understand it's all fair in love and war right?

Just want to make sure we are all on the same page. It takes two to tango. It may come back to bite you in the future. I am okay with this new policy as long as their is no hypocrisy. How does the old adage go...Live by the sword...die by the sword.

I have no problem with decommits. It's way of life until there's an early signing period. None of us know what Jim is telling recruits. We all get worked up over 5 star recruits. I'm more focused on how the coaches improve the skill level of the entire team once practice begins.

Negative recruiting, decommitments, I've never heard of such things. You've just described recruiting. Whether I like it or not, the imperfect recruiting world works this way.

I would add that I don't think that Michigan will be taking conditional commitments from such marginal players from here on. I think their success on the field will put them in a lot more stronger position for recruiting players they are satisfied are the best available. They came into this year with absolutely no momentum from the crappy several seasons under Hoke, I don't anticipate lousy seasons being the norm under Genghis Jim.

Coming into the season Michigan needed talented recruits but the 3 star players were the only ones interested. The winning season accelerated interest from 4 and 5 star guys. You can't blame the coaches for wanting them and you cant blame commits for changing their mind and looking at other schools with better playing time.

Alles klar!

Noticed you gentlemen diverted the point of the post. So you are all 'fine' with when kids decommit and go elsewhere for better opportunities.

It sounds like it and I will make sure going forward that people recognize a kids right to their self interest with no complaining from fans which include guys like Elliott. If Gary somehow wound up at another place (Clemson) that would be okay and no vitriol would be unleashed against him because UM had committed him for so long.

Just want to make sure everybody supports each parties right's to further their own self interests at anytime.

I think you're confusing accepting the fact that students decommit and go elsewhere with enjoying, being glad, or not complaining about them going elsewhere. Of course we're going to grumble, because we care about our team. Plain as day right? We just won't have weeklong online ethics courses on the morality of the act. Students and teams are free to change their mind, whether we like it or not, agreed.

Exactly, I've never, ever criticized a kid for changing his mind. Lecturing about ethics and breaking one's word is pretty silly. Same thing when a coach says he's not leaving and then later takes a better job. I have no problem at all with it. It stings, but it doesn't mean the guy is bad or morally bankrupt.
