John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were bitter rivals while both men competed for their individual Presidency's. Later in life,the last two surviving writers of declaration Of Independence became friends though letter writing. together they were protectors of that document fighting fiercely for every last word.
July 4 1826, while the nation was celebrating the 50 anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence,John Adams was dying in his Quincy,Massachusetts home and his last recorded words were "Jefferson lives". What Adams didn't know, Thomas Jefferson had died five and a half hours earlier in his Monticello Virginia Home.
