what is known is this
1 - Jim made some very tough choices on his staff - he liked and respected Don brown and Mike Zordich - both are great guys on a personal level - but he determined Don was too dogmatic and was holding his staff back (not taking input - which had a clear impact) on Mike really think coach wanted a more OSU approach of all coaches recruiting at a high level and this wasn’t coach Z”s strong suit
2 - many DC”s were looked at but coach Mac Donald was picked given his upside - energy and experience at a high level - he was going to be a DC someplace this coming season and feedback has been he will be a star - was best to get him early ala the Lincoln Reilly approach
John harbaugh gave him the highest recommendation
3 -view is that the new staff is a major recruiting and energy upgrade - also - expectations on reinforcing cultire
4-michigan has perhaps the youngest and most diverse staff in big ten - but also added two michigan alums that are great guys and exciting coaches
clear focus is energy and tempo
5 - feel bad on how some of this went down - the long time to make things public and dragging out the assistant coaches - some of whom may have missed out on new jobs however
6-jim kept his word to the team and recruits on betting on himself and being back with a vengeance - he clearly owns the outcome
7- staff is already hard at portal and final recruits

am told to expect 3/4 or so new players via portal
8 - beyond coaches being more focused on recruiting across the board more resources will be applied to recruiting
details not known yet - but intent is to have more resources for identification of talent and helping coaches maintain recruit advantage
