Stanford year 1 = 4 wins
Stanford year 2 = 5 wins
Stanford year 3 = 8 wins
Stanford year 4 = 12 wins; Orange Bowl win
Takeaway: We are playing this year with 2 true Harbaugh recruiting classes. They are generally Freshmen/Redshirt Freshmen/Soph. We have 4-5 returning starters, and Speight, Black and Newsome are not playing right now
List of Harbaugh's recruits who were drafted in the first or second round of the NFL draft:
Trent Murphy - second round - 3* recruit
Zach Ertz - second round - 3* recruit
David Decastro - first round - 3*
Coby Fleener - second round - 3*
Jonathan Martin - second round - 3*
Andrew Luck - #1 overall - 4*
Throw in Richard sherman, who became a multi-year all-pro - 3*
Takeaway: His eye for recruiting is better than ours. Note: several of these high draft picks are OL and TE and a QB. I'm baffled as to why our OL play in particular is not better. none of these guys played outside the hash marks. our Skill guys (DB/WR) can add to the success he had at stanford
This year, whether we want to believe it or not, is a rebuilding year. The MSU loss was deeply disappointing. I don't like how thin Harbaugh has stretched himself with things that do not directly benefit our student-athletes (i like the rome trip, don't necessary like the Amazon documentary, the "Attack each day" podcasts, the annual photo books with Turnley, etc.....) He needs to focus and have his fingerprints all over the offensive scheme and make himself accountable (in retrospect, i think Fisch and Ty Wheatley were right for wanting more responsibilities and the Drevno/Jay Harbaugh/Pep/Frey four headed monster needs to be simplified or turned over)
That being said, i'd want no other head coach for michigan and still believe we have the talent to be competitive on a national level.... it just needs to mature and develop.
Unfortunately, i think we are 2 years away when we can field an OL of:
LT - Newsome (hopefully!)
LG - Bredeson (as a senior)
C - Ruiz
RG - Onwenu (as a senior)
RT - Filiaga
And McCaffrey a RS Soph. QB
Throw in a Don Brown defense with juniors and seniors instead of freshmen and soph.... our receiving and TE corps.... I think we'll have a winner
