I predict Butt will leave - I think he's the #1 TE on Mel Kiper's board so he will get taken in the first 3 rounds. If you are the #1 TE, not sure how much higher your ceiling is really going to be so why come back. I imagine he's as good as gone - classy kid, did really well for Michigan and a pure team player. Lewis on the other hand - what is the guess? He's at the top of his game right now and can likely go in the 3rd of 4th round of the NFL...thoughts?
Also, does Chesson have a chance of leaving? That kid will play in the NFL based on pure speed and he improved so much during the season.

I thought Lewis said back in October that he was staying.

Of course, that can change. I think Lewis has more incentive to stay (vs. Butt), more room to become NFL-ready. Butt is already there.

Perhaps his draft stock ceiling isn't his primary priority/objective in life?

Perhaps but when you have a chance to go in the Pros and make $1M/year and be able to train and get coached all year long versus just for 15 practices, etc and improve and potentially make more you likely will do that unless you don't want a career in football regardless, in which case he would not be playing. He said today that if he can get drafted in the first 3 rounds he would go and I think he will get drafted in the first 3 rounds. TEs are heavily featured in the Pros now.

What else can Butt do to up his stock? When you are the #1 rated TE coming out today, you are at the ceiling in terms of draft position anyway.
I disagree with the assumption that being the top TE is the best he can hope for. Possibly by coming back he improves his grade from 3rd round to 1st round. Not saying he will come back, but improving his own stock is much more valuable than how he ranks in the overall TE group.

It depends on team needs. You are starting to see more and more top runnings back get drafted in the 2nd and 3rd versus historically. Teams may not feel that a TE is their first priority. Look, I hope he stays at Michigan because he is a matchup nightmare but when you have the option to be the first TE taken and play in the NFL if that is what you inspire to do, it's hard to say no.

why are you guessing about what someone else is going to do with their life?
