"The O-lineman have been asked on occasion to make blocks that are impossible to make."
He's said something like that a couple of times over the last few seasons and backed it up with film during the "In The Trenches" segments.
We always hear coaches talk about putting players in a position to succeed. Over the last few seasons, I think we've missed that opportunity too many times.
Here's my question. How is a guy with the experience that Warriner has unable to recognize the limitations of the guys he's working with? I thought Warriner was an adequate coach, but I never love his lines when it came to run blocking against equal talent, BUT I also don't want to put it ALL on him.
The design of the play is as important as trying to get the player to make the design work. Why would you have plays that your guys have no or very little chance of executing?
Lastly, the game situations where some of these plays were called could have been the most frustrating thing of all.
When Harbaugh first got here, the goal-line offense was great to watch. They had the QB under center. When the ball was snapped, they just plowed ahead; the FB dive was so effective. Last year the QB was in the shotgun with people pulling all over the place, and a bunch of RB's were stopped before they got started.
I'm praying the new O-line coach will eliminate a lot of the fancy stuff in the run game and be the freakin hammer. I hope the OC stops calling stupid plays on the goal line that take all day to develop. And I hope whoever is game-planning and scheming for the offense will develop plays that put our guys in the right spots.
Harbaugh needs to reengage and be more detail-oriented.
