what bars and eateries can you recommend? Me and some buds will be driving in a van to State College tomorrow morning.

Peace out

What kind of place u looking for? A true college bar where your shoes stick to the floor or some place a bit nicer.

Sorry to hear you've been banned - apparently it's not a tough thing to accomplish at our free board, though. I wouldn't know, I avoid that place the best I can haha.

It depends on what you're into. If you like good food and craft beer, I give The Deli my highest recommendation for lunch or dinner. Other good places downtown for a nice dinner are Zola's or The Tavern. Some people might recommend Allen Street Grille for a nice, upscale place or The Corner Room for something more casual, but these two places only attract customers because it's in a sort of historic building; the food is trash, IMO.

Besides The Deli, places with good craft beer selections for lunch or dinner are Otto's Pub & Brewery, and Happy Valley Brewery. Both brew their own beer, but will have other options. Of course, with anything I've mentioned so far, you might have a long wait during a football weekend. There's also Champs for solid food with craft beer on Atherton, and Spatz Cafe on College Ave for another delicious upscale-ish option, serving cajun tapas.

For bars with craft beer (which is my thing, if you couldn't tell), there's Liberty on College Ave, and Zeno's on the corner of College and Allen. Speaking of College Ave, if nothing else, just walk on College between Garner and Atherton and you'll walk by just about everything.

For more of a dive-bar, places-to-get-drunk recommendations, The Phyrst (Irish dive with well endowed bar tenders - possibly like Chumley's on College Ave, but I have less experience there) and All-American Rathskeller are classics. Skeller opened the day prohibition ended and hasn't looked back since. The first beer they served there was a Rolling Rock, and that's still kind of their thing.

Another classic if the weather is nice is Cafe 210, which is known for drinking teas on the outdoor patio. I'm in Texas right now, so that patio sounds great -- but it's likely too cold this time of year. Still, they'll have live music at night, along with the Phyrst, Skeller, Bar Bleu, Zeno's, and The Saloon (maybe a few others, but that's off the top of my head).

So, those are my thoughts/recommendations, but there are several other options, and I'm sure lots of opinions.
