There's lots of good news this week.

We are only a few weeks away from the start of football season, and I believe we're in a good spot.

Kerry Carpenter blasted his way back into the Tigers lineup last night with two home runs and a single. It was a long layoff, but he wasted no time reminding Tiger fans that he's an integral part of the Tiger family. He looks bigger than when he left, and I believe that's a good thing.

We've been through quite a week with our middle child. Many of you know Michael (31) is a special needs young man who totally relies on us (his mother) to survive.

Last week, he was very irritable and turned yellow, so we took him to the ER. His liver numbers were way off the chart, so the testing began—lots of blood work, a CT scan of his abdomen, and an MRI of his liver.

It was determined that he had gallbladder issues, and because of his history, we were sent over to the big Hospital in Orlando. They removed a blockage, put in a stent, and sent us back to our local hospital. The next day (Sat), they said we needed the entire gallbladder removed. Sunday morning, he went in for what was supposed to be 60-90 minutes of surgery. Four hours later, he finally made it to recovery.

The surgeon told us his gallbladder was a tangled mess, which made the surgery much more complicated. She said he probably suffered for a long time, and we had no way of knowing. She added a drain as a precaution and to help spot any excess bleeding if there was any.

Michael only has a few words and can't communicate when he's uncomfortable or in pain. In my opinion, it's the worst part of his condition and it breaks our hearts. To think your kid is hurting and he can't let you know is a terrible place to be.

By Sunday afternoon, we could tell he felt much better; his numbers returned to normal. Monday around 11:00 am they removed the drain and late Monday, he came home.

The staff at both hospitals were terrific, and we are grateful and humbled by their care and professionalism.

Here are two pictures of Mike: one from the beginning of last week and one from last night. What a difference a week can make.

God is good.
