I understand that it's been a while since we won anything meaningful around here, but My God are we as a fanbase to the point where we look forward to just being a 'good' football team? Do we long for the years of being 8-4 & going to the Outback Bowl? Really? Not me. And not Jim Harbaugh.

It's pretty sad that what we endured the past 7 years (& at least a few more before that under LLLoyd) has brought us to the point where we're happy with 9 wins & ecstatic with 10. Really?

Those 7+ years are over. Those seasons are gone. Done. Can't get them back. But it's different now. We all know it's different now.

I'm not going to make any bold win predictions about future seasons of UM Football but I guarantee moving forward it's gonna be a helluva lot more fun than it's been in the past 10 yrs. No question about it.

Now UM has it's two biggest rivals sitting at the big-boy table in College Football. Meyer has done a great job continuing on with Tressel's SEC ways & winning. Mark Dantonio (as much as I despise sparty) is doing a tremendous job as well & has his team in the Playoffs. We all know where those two programs are today compared to where we are. But Rome wasn't built in a day & I have no doubt that UM is right there on the verge. Harbaugh knows it & is players know it too.

UM could have lost as many as 4 or 5 of their underclassmen star players (2 All Americans) to the NFL draft but they're all staying. Find me another program or coach that can say that. These guys all know what they've got & they know what they've got to do. Just like their coach, they're on a mission!

Dantonio & sparty have thrived on working hard, believing in their mission, believing in themselves & eachother and capitalizing on achievable goals. They smell blood in the water & they get after it. They should be commended. I hate them but I commend them!

Harbaugh is not going to settle for anything less than winning. At Everything. At workouts, at practice, at lifting, at recruiting, at breakfast, at dinner. At Championships. No one will out-work him & no one will out-work his team. I think this team smells blood in the water & once they get the taste of winning, Look Out!

I like where we're at. I like it a lot!

Go Blue!

on accepting mediocrity. . .I tried to suit up for Hoke and RR but they didn't want another stud on their team. Outside of that the only acceptance is not to be glued to the TV set on Saturdays or turning on for the first half. Can't do much else you know

Not sure what that means.

Go Blue!

I think the point is that we talked this talk preseason. Everybody was onboard with the prospects of Mediocrity being behind us very soon. But face it........in todays world winners walk the walk, losers talk the talk. We're all excited about "being back", but until we start winning the big games we're not "back".

no argument but the MSU game was a once-in-a-lifetime event. UM is now even with MSU after just 10 months of JH. OSU is another story. I think the Bucks have the best team in the nation but we'll never know.

I totally agree about OSU this year. The best team in the nation who should have been 14-20 points better than anyone they played this year but we will never know because they were not focused this year as a team. The individual super stars selfishness which could not be reigned in by Meyer blew their run. Florida was the same under Meyer and he blew town before the heat set in on him.

I love these types of posts, we get them on the IU Basketball Boards. Please indulge a non-UM fan, but I am really curious about this subject. My question is what is your alternative, what can you actually do?

I am sure there isn't a meeting being held to decide that mediocrity is now considered acceptable. Even Coaches without elite results don't make a conscience decision to accept mediocrity. They think they are doing everything they can to be elite. If some fans determine it is "not acceptable" what options do the fans have beside not attend games. Unless you are a big time donor, the actual input an individual has is very limited and with a superstar Coach even their input is limited. Attendance at a UM football game or IU BB game is not going to be noticed. So besides the rhetoric of throwing around phrases like "not acceptable," what can you actually do?

Agree ... this thread makes zero sense to me.

Kills me to have to defend O$U, but I think many have undervalued the injuries that took place on this team, in the WR core especially and other depth players.
Then there IS the mental end of things. These guys are still young men, not machines. In a perfect world you'd like to think mentally they would fire on all cylinders but it just doesn't always work that way.
Do I think Meyer "F"ed up the QB situation from day 1 this season? Yup! Did that possibly divide the team? Possibly so. Still, many of the games this season when it came to crunch time O$U took care of business.
Do I think they were undoubtedly the BEST team in the nation. No way. By seasons end other teams can get their chemistry going & be a very tough out (Sparty for one).
You CANNOT underestimate team chemistry!

And I'm not ready to say M is on par with Moo U just yet. We played them while they were injury depleted & at home. While the scoreboard says we SHOULD have been able to hang on to get the W, we didn't. Plus the eyeball test to me says we still have a ways to go. Still thought they out physicaled us & are better at the offensive skill positions. Just my 2 cents. Not looking to argue.
