Kansas is in-home with five-star Isaiah Todd tonight, a last ditch effort to sway him from picking Michigan Thursday. He'll announce on instagram (live) at 7:45 p.m. Oct. 17 and it's down to U-M and the Jayhawks.
Our Kansas sources don't expect tonight's in-home to have an effect. They also believe he's U-M bound.
It wasn't long ago that Todd had a top 10 that didn't even include the Wolverines, but new head coach Juwan Howard has bonded with the kid and his mother and Todd's visit was outstanding. He was in the same weekend as Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy's Moses Moody, who also enjoyed his trip. Moody will visit Arkansas this weekend, but U-M is right up there for him.
New head coach Juwan Howard has yet to land his first 2020 recruit, but he believes when one comes, many will follow. Keeping pledge Zeb Jackson was a good first step, of course, as was hauling in German Franz Wagner (who has been everything they hoped he'd be and more).
"There have been some recruits that have been really excited about the new vision and what we have in store," Howard said at Big Ten media day. "I just feel that once one recruit commits, it's going to be a rapid fire ... everyone else will fall in. Who's willing to step in the front line and bet on himself first?
"I bet on myself first when I stepped in the line and I committed to Michigan. Are you willing to bet on yourself?"
Barring something unforeseen, Todd will be that guy. From our eyes and ears at USA Basketball, Todd was telling several other players there last weekend that he's headed to Michigan. He has said all the right things to Howard, too, leading to great confidence in the U-M camp.
Todd is a face up four with an outstanding perimeter game and impressive wing span. He's still flirting with the idea of playing overseas (likely Australia) and many believe he's still going to go that route. He insists he hasn't made up his mind, however, and has said publicly he thinks a year of college would benefit him.
He's also saying similar stuff to those close to the program, leading to hope that he'll be in Ann Arbor for a year if he chooses the Wolverines Thursday (coincidentally, also Michigan basketball's Media Day).
Watch for more on Todd in the hours to come.
