Michigan head coach Juwan Howard continues to put the work in on the recruiting trail, ready to land four or so from a loaded 2022 class. Here's the latest on a number of prospects ...
Starting with the "most likely to join the class" - Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy's Jett Howard is a lock, and he's moving up the charts. The 6-7 wing is likely going to be a top 40 kid at worst the way he's playing, and while he doesn't want to do much talking — he wants to be recruited — he'll be a Wolverine.
Gregg Glenn III is "on the clock." He's the No. 52 player nationally, and while he's not a shooter, he's pretty skilled. His offer is committable, and the Wolverines are in good position here.
Point guard Dug McDaniel of Fairfax (Va.) Paul VI — we see him ending up at Florida. It sounds like U-M gave him some time to commit, and he's outside that window. He still has a visit set up for June 6, but we'll see if he gets there.
Those who saw him this weekend said he looks closer to 5-8, and he really struggles to shoot the ball. The Wolverines are looking at other point guards, including Wisconsin native Seth Trimble (6-3, 185, No. 109), but they want to see more before offering.
No. 1 2022 point guard Jaden Bradley of IMG Academy is a very good possibility to reclassify. Kentucky would be the one to watch if that were the case, but he's also looking at the G-League option. We think U-M is a long shot here for those and other reasons. Likewise with his teammate Jarace Walker ... they were rumored to be a package deal. Walker (6-6, 220) had a great tournament at Geico Nationals, but this one won't happen and, without elaborating, probably shouldn't.
Jalen Duren, the nation's No. 1 player out of Montverde (soon, likely passing Emoni Bates - who we have heard again won't be playing college ball at Michigan State or anywhere else), is also a decent bet to reclassify or go G-League after this year. His former AAU and prep coach, DJ Irving, was recently announced as a Miami (Fla.) assistant. If he goes anywhere, it's like to be there.
This could affect combo guard Justice Williams, his former teammate in Philly pre-Montverde, as well. Williams won't reclassify, though, and U-M is very much in the thick of this one, at or near the top for the 6-4, 175-pounder. The Wolverines need shooters, and he can score at all three levels.
Tyler Rodgers — this one appears to be an old school Michigan vs. Syracuse battle. The 6-5, 175-pound wing (No. 78) is extremely athletic but doesn't shoot it well, so they need to fill in other classes with shooters if they take him - ditto Chicago native AJ Casey. Both of these guys are great athletes and really like the Wolverines. Casey (6-8 200, No. 21), as highly as he's ranked, doesn't appear to be as much a priority for schools as he should be.
As previously reported, U-M is at or near the top of the list for both these kids.
IMG's Eric Dailey Jr. — his dad played overseas, and this could be a case where the kid follows in his old man's footsteps. Some have said the 6-7, 220-pounder (No. 31) out of IMG Academy is a work in progress, but he's skilled.
Seven-foot center Donovan Clingan of Briston (Conn.) (No. 47) is as close to a UConn lock as it gets. His late mother really loved the home state Huskies, and that will likely weigh heavily into his decision.
Finally, Coastal Carolina transfer DeVante' Jones is likely headed to Houston. This one appears to have been in the works for a while.
We'll continue to provide more hoops recruiting notes in the days to come.
