Class of 2022 Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star cornerback Myles Rowser committed to Michigan on Jan. 13, with Rivals.com revealing soon after they view the young defensive back as one of the 100 best players in the country.
Rowser was in the headlines once again in early May, however, when he revealed he would be opening his recruitment back up, while also maintaining he was still “very interested” in Michigan.
Though he didn’t necessarily say he was decommitting from U-M, there was some confusion as to whether or not Rowser was still a part of the Maize and Blue’s 2022 class.
TheWolverine recently spoke with his father, Andre Seldon Sr. (also the father of current Michigan freshman cornerback Andre Seldon), to get the latest.
“I don’t really like to use the word ‘commit,’” Seldon Sr. said when asked if Rowser is still a Michigan commit. “He’s definitely looking at the other opportunities he has. Myles just wants to make sure he’s making the right decision wherever he goes. It’s basically about seeing what’s out there and making the correct decision for himself.”
Does that mean Michigan is still in the picture?
“Of course,” Seldon Sr. said adamantly, while also stating that Rowser will take visits to other colleges once recruiting trips begin taking place again around the country.
Some have assumed that having Seldon Jr. already as a member of the Michigan football team as a freshman cornerback would help with the Wolverines’ chances of landing/holding onto Rowser, but the former’s presence in Ann Arbor may not be playing as much of a factor as some think.
“Dre [Andre Seldon Jr.] lets Myles do his own thing,” Seldon Sr. revealed. “He doesn’t try to pressure him at all by telling him to go to Michigan. He knows Myles just wants to do what’s best for him. Myles sees what Dre is doing and now knows everything there is to know about Michigan.
“He sees it firsthand and has been up there a lot over the last three years, so he knows what U-M has to offer. It’s also about seeing what other schools have to offer, and whether or not U-M is 100 percent the place for him.
"Dre doesn’t pressure him at all and really doesn’t say a whole lot to him about it, because Myles is now seeing firsthand how it’s working out for Dre. When Dre was being recruited, it kind of irritated him when people would tell him where to go, so he doesn’t want to be the kind of person who tells someone else where to go to school.”
