Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh will not rest until he has taken advantage of every opportunity to level the playing field on the recruiting trail … at least to the best of his ability.

This year’s spring practice announcement will be a bombshell. Look for something Friday at the earliest on this while they tie up loose ends, etc., but suffice it to say Harbaugh is fighting the good fight for his kids … and for college football in general.

Michigan can’t compete for some recruits, at least not the way other schools are willing to, so Harbaugh is going to keep battling. Some people might not like him, but those who do things the right way have to appreciate that he’s good … great … for college football.

This is not a one-year thing, by the way, and it took some research and planning. But yeah … you’ll be blown away. This should also help the Wolverines’ recruiting efforts immensely.

On the recruiting trail, Michigan feels good about its chances with five-star defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon out of Leesburg (Ga.) Lee County after a recent in-home. They also felt good about five-star running back and No. 1 player overall Najee Harris, so we’ll continue to treat this one with a skeptical eye … however, there are some closest to him firmly in U-M’s corner.

On an interesting note, we’re also hearing they feel they’re 50-50 for South Jordan (Utah) four-star DT Jay Tufele. Tufele has long been rumored to Utah and could still be hard to pull away, but they feel they are right there.

The Wolverines want two more offensive linemen in this class – as our Brandon Brown has said many times, four-star Florida lineman and pledge Kai-Leon Herbert is not expected to be in this group – and the list includes four-star tackle Mekhi Becton (6-7, No. 195 senior nationally) out of Highland Springs, Va. and PSU pledge C.J. Thorpe (now No. 78) of Pittsburgh Central Catholic.

Finally, on the basketball recruiting front, Michigan recently made the final four for Mohamed Bamba of Westtown (Pa.). – and yes, there’s a real shot. But the Wolverines need to at least make the NCAA Tournament to have a chance, and that’s not going to be easy. They’ll need some big wins to make up for the games they’ve lost, including a road victory or two.

Bamba is the No. 4 player in the nation at 6-11 … normally we’d say ‘no shot,’ but our impeccable sources have told us the Wolverines are right there with Texas, Duke and Kentucky. We’ll see how his visits to the latter two go – and again, it’s an uphill battle – but this is not your typical five-star recruitment.
