We reported this morning that the assistant coaches would meet with head coach Jim Harbaugh Monday, at which point it was expected (strongly) that he'd be announcing his extension and sorting out his staff. The only potential difference here — it might be Tuesday. That's when they're getting everyone (correction - the coaches, not the team) together, in person. We are 100 percent certain that it's happening as of now.
Again, it was originally slated to be Monday, but there's a potential big development as to why it's being pushed back ...
Some more very interesting nuggets ...
• Harbaugh continues to fight to keep tight ends coach Sherrone Moore, arguably his best recruiter. Oklahoma wasn't the only one showing interest. Mississippi State has been, as well. We expect Moore sticks, however (assuming Harbaugh stays, as expected), and again, Penn State's Tim Banks is one of the front runners to join the staff, probably in the same Co-DC role he held at PSU
We've heard nothing but great things about him.
• The early enrollees are now not expected to be allowed on campus this month. This is likely due to COVID concerns.
• Finally — and don't shoot the messenger if it doesn't happen — there is expressed confidence that Harbaugh will land Oregon offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead. This is what's being conveyed to folks extremely close to it with firsthand knowledge, the word as of today being "we're close."
We don't know the details, but we do know that this is what's being said. This is a fact.
Addendum: We're now hearing the reason the meeting was pushed back was indeed to try to finalize the deal with Moorhead before getting everyone together.
We'll continue to report what we know when we get it.
