*** I feel better about Michigan landing Rivals100 Oak Park (Mich.) High defensive tackle Rayshaun Benny today than I did yesterday. I have reason to believe Michigan's conversations with Benny are moving in the right direction and that Benny may longer be second guessing his original decision. Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, area recruiter Sherrone Moore and defensive line coach Shaun Nua are all leading the charge here and have built up the longest and strongest relationship with Benny and his family. Remember, had Benny made his decision last month or the month before that, I fully believe the pick would have been Michigan.
*** While I still don't think it's a slam dunk, I'm happy leaving my pick on the Wolverines. There has obviously been a lot of smoke surrounding Michigan State as of late, but I'm not as concerned as I was this time last week. Yes, MSU head coach Mel Tucker and that staff are going to throw everything they have at Benny until the weekend nears. But I think relationships will outweigh that late surge. Even when I saw Benny most recently, he said that his bond with that staff was still developing. I'm not completely counting out MSU, but again, I like where Michigan stands.
*** The school that has always scared me is Kentucky. The Wildcats have a great relationship with Oak Park head coach Greg Carter and have Benny's former teammate, Justin Rogers, on the roster. Rogers has been recruiting him hard this week as has fellow in-state commit Maxwell Hairston. I think there has been a little negative buzz about Michigan and its in-state recruiting efforts coming out of this camp, which Benny did recently express a tiny bit of concern with — at least the seed is in his mind.. I very much feel like Kentucky is still the dark horse here.
