*** It looks like Michigan isn’t done looking for left tackles. From talking to a source over the weekend, Michigan offensive line coach Ed Warinner is set to go ‘all in’ for three-star San Luis Obispo (Calif.) High prospect Thomas Cole. Despite having Tristan Bounds in the fold and numbers getting tight along the offensive line, Michigan is ramping up its pursuit of Cole. The three-star prospect has drawn comparisons to 2020 U-M signee Jeff Persi and has the frame that Warinner loves (6-7, 260 pounds). Cole has a Top 5 of Arizona, Cal, Michigan, Oregon State and UCLA. Michigan is obviously the only out-of-region school still in the mix, but the Wolverines very much have a legit shot here.
*** The chase for Rivals100 Lititz (Pa.) Warwick offensive tackle Nolan Rucci isn’t over just yet. Warinner was back on the phone with Rucci on Sunday, and the two had another positive conversation. I’m not getting on the Michigan is a dark horse bandwagon just yet, but it’s clear the Wolverines are going to recruit him all the way through. I still feel like Clemson and Penn State are in better spots here. Wisconsin may be as well. Rucci was actually in Madison this weekend helping drop off his brother, who plays for the Badgers. Still, Warinner is a proven recruiter, and Rucci seems set on taking official visits.
*** What about Drew Kendall? Michigan is still pushing for the Rivals100 Boston (Mass.) Noble & Greenough guard. As I’ve mentioned, Michigan has the luxury of being able to put the squeeze him. Warinner was back on the phone with Kendall and his family on Friday, and the Wolverines remain the clubhouse leaders here. Kendall wants to make a commitment soon, and I feel like it could come before the end of the month. With that said, Kendall has continued to delay the process, so it will be interesting to see how this situation plays out.
*** The Clarkston (Mich.) High duo of Rocco Spindler and Garrett Dellinger will always have their spots. They have been priority Michigan offensive line targets for quite some time and will continue to be at the top of the board. As I reported last week, Warinner and Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh were on the phone with them last Monday. Warinner keeps in frequent contact with both, and Michigan remains a major player in each recruitment. Both plan to make their visits and may not make decisions until December.
