*** Perhaps the top overall safety target on Michigan's safety board is Reisterstown (Md.) Franklin's Daymon David. A two-star prospect, David named Michigan a top school shortly after receiving an offer from the Wolverines. I'm told he is the top overall target at the position — Titus Mokiao-Atimalala is a definite take but would count as an athlete. I'll have more on David and the safety position, in general, later on today in my new safety big board.
*** Four-star Mission Hills (Calif.) Bishop Alemany athlete Jaylin Smith has long been considered a USC lean but has yet to pull the trigger. I'm told Smith is more open than most are making it out to be by sources out West. In talking to a source close to the program, Smith is one of the top corners on the Michigan board at this time. The Rivals250 prospect has been in contact with the staff recently, and I'm working to get more on his end soon.
*** Sticking with corners, I mentioned last week that three-star La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat cornerback Dyson McCutcheon and his family had a positive talk with U-M cornerbacks coach Michael Zordich. McCutcheon has risen up the board, and like Smith, is a top corner target. Washington is considered the favorite for McCutcheon, but I think Michigan has a chance to create some real movement here.
*** I've mentioned him in the past but want to reiterate that Michigan is making a push for Dorien Ford. I'm told the three-star Baldwin (Pa.) High defensive tackle is a guy the Wolverines would love to land at the position. Ford is very quiet and hardly does interviews, so it's hard to get a true read on his recruitment. Pitt and Penn State are up there for him, but it's unclear how hard PSU is pushing. Michigan is a dark horse in this race.
