*** I mentioned Rivals250 St. Louis (Mo.) University safety Isaac Thompson as a prospect the Wolverines were gaining steam with yesterday. I actually just got off the phone with Thompson, and I think Michigan has really gained control of this recruitment. Remember, Thompson is set to make his way to Michigan for a self-guided tour on Nov. 14. He will have an opportunity to really bond and hang out with the commits. And he will be joined by both his mother and father, which is huge. Thompson's father has been in constant contact with the father of Michigan quarterback commitJJ McCarthy.
*** Michigan is the only school that Thompson plans to visit on his own this calendar year. That's especially big because Thompson told me that he could make a decision in December. He added that's a big reason why he and his family wanted to see Michigan. Thompson said he may wait until January, so he can see some of his other top schools, but he doesn't want to take it much longer than that. If he does wait until January, Thompson said Michigan will get another visit. Texas was thought to be the favorite, but that program is a dumpster fire right now. Florida, Missouri and Penn State remain threats.
*** Thompson's father, Hickey, played at Michigan State and still supports his former school, but he's always told Isaac to do his own thing. Hickey really likes what Michigan offers on and off the field and actually encouraged Isaac to take a hard look at U-M early on in the process. Isaac told me that MSU hasn't been recruiting him too hard and that he doesn't have much interest in the Spartans. He added that his whole family plans to watch Michigan vs. Michigan State and that he plans on rooting for Michigan. Obviously, the Wolverines beating down MSU can only help in this recruitment.
