*** Five-star 2022 Grosse Pointe (Mich.) South cornerback Will Johnson is set to make his decision next weekend. Believe it or not, Johnson has actually moved up his timeline. He was originally looking to commit on March 28, so this is an entire month sooner. I've had my FutureCast pick in for Michigan for several months and still feel confident. Johnson has really bonded with the new defensive staff, especially co-defensive coordinator Mo Linguist. The two talk on a daily basis.
*** From talking to sources around Johnson, I have reason to believe that Ohio State has faded a bit in this recruitment. Johnson did take a self-guided tour of OSU and had some good talks with the staff, but it doesn't seem like he jived well with the program. I actually believe USC may be a bigger threat to Michigan. He really enjoyed his time down in Los Angeles, and of course, good friend Domani Jackson is committed there. Jackson was recruiting Johnson before he even publicly announced. USC associate head coach Donte Williams also happens to be the best recruiter out west and has made Johnson a priority.
*** With that said, I spoke to a source on the USC side, and while there is a bit of optimism, there is also a belief that Johnson doesn't want to leave home. I've always said that I thought Johnson wanted to be in the Midwest. The source said Michigan should be the betting favorite. Again, I've been consistent in saying that Michigan leads for Johnson, and the fact that he moved up his decision only makes me feel better. I would be extremely surprised if Johnson doesn't follow in his father's footsteps next weekend.
