*** I mentioned earlier this week that Michigan was preparing to make a strong push for three-star San Luis Obispo (Calif.) High offensive tackle Thomas Cole. Well, Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh actually jumped on the phone with him earlier today. I'm told the call went extremely well. Harbaugh had his kids on the video call and made it feel more like a family conversation than a football one. It left a mark on Cole.
*** Michigan offensive line coach Ed Warinner is a big reason why the Wolverines are major players for Cole. Warinner has done a great job of relationship building, selling him on development and pitching Michigan's elite education. I get the sense that Warinner and Cole are really clicking, especially here recently. Warinner keeps in contact with Cole on basically a daily basis.
*** Cole is set to get back on the phone with Michigan tomorrow. The call will be with academic advisors and focus solely on education. Cole is a high academic kid, and he loves what Michigan has to offer. He told me that he is very excited about learning more about Michigan's opportunities in the classroom and for life after football.
*** Cole has a top five of Michigan, Cal, UCLA, Arizona and Oregon State. He wants to make a decision at some point this summer but may push it back depending on how everything plays out. Cole really wants to see Ann Arbor and told me he may pull a Tristan Bounds and just drive out to campus. Right now, I think Cal and UCLA are safe bets, but Michigan is really surging in this race.
