*** I've tried my best to keep things a little quiet when it comes to five-star 2022 Cordova (Tenn.) St. Benedict defensive tackle Walter Nolen. I think it's the best way to approach for best parties and the information I'm getting behind the scenes. Look, Michigan is a major player for Nolen. In fact, I wouldn't be shocked if Michigan leads right now. I'm not going to put a FutureCast pick in or anything like that, but the Wolverines have done a phenomenal job recruiting Nolen. He has family in Michigan, has connected with the staff and members of the class and loves the opportunity to be the man right away at a top tier program in need of 300-pound defensive tackles.
*** Nolen is set to be on campus next weekend. Here is what he had to say about his upcoming visit: “That’s going to be great. I’ve got family up there, so it will be great to see my grandparents. That’s always a great thing. I’m just going to drive by the school and see what it looks like.” It's the the dead period, so the Michigan staff can't meet with Nolen, but they are going to do their best to make this a great visit experience by giving him a plan of what to do during his time in Ann Arbor. Nolen is also looking to return to Michigan in the summer for an official visit. He mentioned Georgia and Ohio State as others that will receive OVs as well.
*** New Michigan assistant Ron Bellamy has been leading the way in Nolen's recruitment. Bellamy, who is also from the south, has taken a more off the field approach with Nolen. In fact, most of their recent conversations have centered around video game: “He’s great,” Nolen said of Bellamy. “He’s trying to play me at 2K (NBA video game). He’s got the PS5. I’m for sure going to hit him up when I get back home." This is a complete staff effort, but Michigan co-defensive coordinator Maurice Linguist is also playing a role here. Linguist plucked Kody Jones out of the Memphis-area and is more than capable of pulling big-time talent from the south.
*** Michigan's 2022 commits are all recruiting Nolen extremely hard. As mentioned, Jones is also from the Memphis-area and has been in contact. Five-star cornerback pledge Will Johnson is obviously the leader of the class and has been recruiting Nolen for several months — even before he announced his pledge to the Wolverines. Here is what Nolen had to say about Johnson: “I mess with Will. He’s great. He’s a cool dude. You can tell he’s ready to work any time you talk to him. That’s a great mindset to have.” I'm not sure if Johnson will be able to meet up with Nolen next weekend since he has basketball, but I'm sure he'll find a way.
