been watching the replay on btn and it wasnt the final possession playcalls but the pitch on 3rd and short before the fg

we had been driving by running right at them why call the pitch when we need less than 2

if we find the endzone on that drive no way we lose

A true head scratcher. 2 plays to get a yard and we pitch out and lose 7 yards. We definitely win this game with better coaching. Also, the final possession was indeed a cluster****The odds of executing a play are greatly enhanced when the defense doesn't know the play. We were way too obvious on that last drive.

I agree that that call was questionable. Still, if Darboh can get his foot inbounds on that one pass, or if Speight manages to connect on just one of those deep balls he missed, we most likely aren't even having this conversation.

The safety should have never happened, either. They were penetrating the backfield all day long and we run a play from 5 yard deep? Maybe a QB sneak and punt scenario should have been employed? Sometimes these highly paid coaches, who are truly experts in their field, get in their own way by over thinking the simple stuff :).

I stand by my original feeling right after the game ended. The coaching was Hoke-esque. I loove our coach but that was a loss to a bad team despite the environment. Plenty of football yet to be played. Hopefully five more games.

Stop being so negative. It was an act of god that beat us last week. Harbaugh and the best coaching staff ever who couldn't ever make a mistake in player development (particularly the O Line), preparation, game planning or play calling couldn't have possibly done anything wrong last week. Good news is acts of god in sports don't happen that often so we should beat IU and OSU by a combined 80 points.

Just watched the replay and I agree 100%. The really sad thing is if we win that game and Induana game would back into the playoffs even with a loss to the bucknuts.

The game is over and we LOST. Not looking back now. Yes, the play calling was suspect in some instances, however, it was brilliant in others in which Speight simply over threw wide open receivers. The kid had a bad night. The Iowa loss is on the team and not one player or coach. Simply put. Poor execution by the players on BOTH sides of the ball at critical times as well as suspect offensive play calling at certain times. Time to move on and nobody, I repeat NOBODY, now is to blame but Michigan themselves if they do not make the college football playoffs. They control 100% of everything within the next two weeks. Beat Indiana, Ohio State and then Wisky again then its business. Lose any one of these games then it is likely the Rose Bowl against Washington or Washington State. If that happens then 11-2 (if we win the bowl game) is still a phenomenal season considering where UM was at just two years ago. Harbaugh is not done in Ann Arbor and next years team will be better than people think.

Offensive line looked really bad on replay. When it's 3rd and short and we can't just pound the ball, you know something is wrong. These guys, while highly ranked recruits, just never became the maulers we all thought they'd be.

Moving forward, I expect Harbaugh's lines to be way better than this.

Yes, Go Blue99, the OL looked really bad at times. Kalis was highly over rated coming out of high school and he has NEVER developed into an elite Division I lineman. That's why I know as a long time high school that the recruiting business is largely a huge hoax and guessing game 99% of the time. It is hard to tell how a kid will develop unless they are a super freak like Jabrill Peppers. Look at Chris Evans who NO ONE in the SEC would even look at last year and even OSU wound up offering him but it was very late in the game. The large schools like Michigan when they recruit is primarily based upon body size and its potential for further growth. Many years ago, I remember having a dynamite nose guard who was 5"11 320 lbs. Very quick on his feet and dominated the line of scrimmage for the three years that he started. South Carolina nor Clemson would touch him because they though the was too short. The kid wound up playing at Georgia Southern and had a stellar career.

Meyer said something interesting (at least to me) that one of the reasons he supposedly doesn't want an early signing period was he wants as much time to watch a kid develop. They are so young that development can occur over a short period of time so you might not think 2-4 months is a long time but when dealing with 17 year olds does matter.

Not saying his comments aren't self serving but nonetheless true.

In regards to the play calling. Look...the team as a whole deserved to lose and everyone contributed. Maybe the staff wanted to exploit certain weaknesses on the lack of perimeter speed from Iowa but it backfired. They outcoached themselves. I wouldn't say it rivaled Hoke but it was more like Carresque.
