OSU's semester ends December 8, does this mean he has to pay for the entire semester, six weeks of classes, or what? I applaud Meyer for stepping up the punishment, that's going to cost Barrett thousands of dollars (unless I'm missing something).
The internet says it is for the summer session. Big deal !!OSU's semester ends December 8, does this mean he has to pay for the entire semester, six weeks of classes, or what? How many games will he sit? It's not for this semester, but it is a costly punishment. Tuition as an out of state student, board, stipends, training table, academic support and tutors.
Also losing the game-which as a first offense isn't a required consequence. Considering the status of OSU's QB situation, it could be a big, factor.
May lose his Captain status.
So for all those who assumed that Meyer would give him a free pass, he isn't getting it.

IIt is a big deal. Like most players and especially quarterbacks, he stays in Columbus during the Summer. It gives him a chance to take some classes, work out at the athletic facilities and with the conditioning coaches, and work out with the receivers. With the penalty it will all be done on his dime- rent, food, and school. Add that to any fines and legal fees, that's a pretty stiff financial hit. Much higher than most normal persons face.
Losing a game is the norm, but still might not be that significant if he was the guaranteed starter with no question. But given the status of the starting QB at OSU, and opening the opportunity for Jones to have a great game and re-establish himself as the starter, makes the penalties for this offense fairly stiff.
It's not a big deal if he's not in Columbus next summer. He might declare for the NFL. He is a RS Soph. 3 years of college under his belt. What? 21 yrs. old by now?
If OSU wins another NC...why stick around?

Fortunately Barrett didn't steal any crab legs. Urban said he would have kicked Winston off the team if he were his coach. So stealing crab legs
is a more serious violation then driving drunk? No wonder Florida was a mess when he coached there. Is his middle name (Windbag)?
Call me cynical but I am highly skeptical that it will be significant. Haven't most of costs been paid? I would love to see the actual cost of this punishment. Would love to see the 'real' cost because something tells me he will qualify for some assistance not football related.
I find it hard to believe this is some sort of punishment/hardship for the ages. Call me skeptical.
Actually he didn't. The question posed to him was what would he do if he was Winston's coach. Meyer said, "That would be tough"
The interviewer said,"you would kick him off the team", and then asked another question before Meyer responded.
He did say it. But whatever. You Buckeyes still honor Tressell after putting OSU on probation.
Yup, so did the College Football Hall of Fame.
pffft, the boosters probably cut a quick check as soon as it was announced.OSU's semester ends December 8, does this mean he has to pay for the entire semester, six weeks of classes, or what? Maybe he can sell his brand new Ford Explorer to help meet his expenses:OSU's semester ends December 8, does this mean he has to pay for the entire semester, six weeks of classes, or what? Maybe he can sell his brand new Ford Explorer to help meet his expenses:
"JT Barrett was driving a brand new Ford Explorer with dealership tags
So says a OSU poster on the Ozone board. Can't wait to hear Gene Smith tell us this is just another "isolated incident."
I wish we could just ship those cheating cooler poopers off to the $EC where they belong."

Has that OSU poster been banned from that OSU board? The actual citation shows that the violation occurred in a 2003 vehicle with a Texas title and plates. I don't think that Texas auto dealerships are giving away free cars to OSU Buckeyes, and I think that a 12 year old vehicle is appropriate for a student.
